Toast to a Cure

Ann’s Hope Foundation raised over $17,000 for melanoma research at the third annual Toast to a Cure held September 25, 2009.

Over 150 guests enjoyed an evening of wine tasting, appetizers, music and a raffle.

The generosity of the guests and the support of  sponsors along with the dedication of  volunteers is what made this event such a success.  During Toast to a Cure a check for $75,0000 was presented to fulfill a three year gift of $225,000 to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Centers melanoma research program headed by Dr. Mark Albertini, MD.”

This year’s event was in memory of Mike Manix who lost his fight to melanoma on February 27, 2009.

Ann’s Hope Foundation recognized Physicians Plus Insurance, UW Health Medical Foundation, Fiskars, Town Bank, , TDS Construction, Unity Health Insurance, Jeff’s Fellowship, MidSci, Sentry Foods- Sun Prairie, The Family of Steve Jones and Terry and Penny Pederson as sponsors of this event along with numerous in-kind donations.

Ann’s Hope Foundation  and Aurora Health Care present the 5th Annual Block Melanoma 5k Run & 3k Walk

Register/Check In: 7:00 a.m.
Start Time:  8:30 a.m.

The run is a *USATF Certified 5k Course and is chip timed. This year's event is being held in memory of Dr. Larry Livingood who lost his battle to melanoma on January 19th, 2009.
We also have a legacy memorial this year, Robyn Temkin, a 22 year old young woman who died more than 20 years ago.  Robyn's family started the Robyn Temkin Memorial Fund that has been creating awareness and educating people about melanoma for the past two decades.

The 2009 Honorary Survivor is Emily Bauman Black.  Emily lives in Shorewood, and at 20 years old was diagnosed stage 4 melanoma.  Today at 23, she is not only surviving, but thriving.

Our 2009 very special Honorary Chair Events are Bud and Sue Selig.  Bud, the commissioner of Major League Baseball is also a melanoma survivor and is happy to support and chair this event.

The Block Melanoma 5K Run /3k Walk will take place at the Milwaukee County Zoo.  Your entry fee will cover your admission fee for the Zoo and parking for the day as well.
Medals for the first three males and females in each age category will be awarded for the 5k Run .  Trophies will be given to the overall male and female winner.
Age Categories:  Male & Female
9 & under; 10-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75+
The race is chip timed and results will be posted.  Event will be held rain or shine.  Strollers are allowed for the 3k walk.  Animals, skates, rollerblades, skateboards and bikes are prohibited.

Light Up the Night raises $85,000 for melanoma research

More than 250 guests gathered at The Legend of Brandybrook in on Saturday, February 23, 2008 for a gala to benefit melanoma research at UW Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The theme of the evening was "Light Up The Night…. An Evening to Illuminate HOPE for Melanoma." Thanks to the generosity of the attendees and sponsors, close to $90,000 was raised to support the groundbreaking work of Mark Albertini, MD, who specializes in melanoma research and treatment.

Presented by Ann's Hope Foundation Inc, the event included silent and live auctions accompanied by cocktails and dinner. Dancing and live music by the Pink Flamingoes topped the night.

"The success of the evening was beyond the expectations of Ann's Hope Foundation. The gala was the third such event presented by the foundation," said Ann Harrington, co-founder of Ann's Hope Foundation. "We are extremely pleased to have pledged a three-year commitment of $225,000 to the UW Carbone Cancer Center to further melanoma research."

The UW Carbone Cancer Center in Madison is the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin, as designated by the National Cancer Institute. An integral part of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, the Cancer Center unites more than 250 physicians and scientists who work together in translating discoveries from research laboratories into new treatments that benefit cancer patients.

A Night of Hope: An Evening to put Melanoma in the Dark

The 2007 Gala was a sold out event. The night included open bar and hors d'ourves, dinner, silent and live auction, live music and dancing. The live and silent auctions helped raise $60,000 for Melanoma research.

The flat 5k race and 3k walk begin at the Country Springs Hotel & Convention Center. Awards for the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Everyone will receive a T-shirt, gift bag, food and beverages.
